Bible teacher and pastor, John MacArthur, believes that in Genesis 1-3 we find the foundation of every doctrine that is essential to the Christian faith?the vital underpinnings for everything we believe. Everything in Scripture that teaches about sin and redemption assumes the literal truth of the first three chapters of Genesis. If we wobble to any degree on the truth of this passage," John MacArthur insists, "we undermind the very foundations of our faith.

John MacArthur wrote Battle For The Beginning primarily to address the world's origins from a Biblical viewpoint. The book is aimed at a Christian audience and is not so much a defense of creationism as it is a defense of a literal six-day creation.

In the debate over how the universe began, the battle lines are clear. With the curiosity of a student and the precision of a veteran Bible teacher, John MacArthur goes to the heart of the battle in his study The Battle for the Beginning. And regardless of which side you’re on, there are important questions that relatively few in either camp have bothered to ask, much less answer. An in-depth examination of Genesis chapter 1, The Battle for the Beginning takes you on an instructive, fascinating journey into the Bible’s own claims about creation, evolution, and the vital issues at stake. John MacArthur has compiled more than 20,000 study notes, a 200-page topical index, and numerous charts, maps, outlines, and articles to create The MacArthur Study Bible. The battle for truth is raging, and this book reveals: The pitfalls of postmodern thinking. No other study Bible does such a thorough job of explaining the historical context, unfolding the meaning of the text, and placing it within a theological framework. Why the Emerging Church Movement is inherently flawed.

MacArthur advocates young-Earth creationism in his book The Battle For the Beginning (2001), and in his sermons . Speaking about evolutionary theory, he writes that Christians "ought to expose such lies for what they are and oppose them vigorously". He argues that "the battle for the beginning is ultimately a battle between two mutually exclusive faiths – faith in Scripture versus faith in anti-theistic hypotheses. It is not really a battle between science and the Bible.

The battle lines have been drawn. Is the enemy winning?

"Thanks to the theory of evolution," writes best-selling author John MacArthur, "naturalism is now the dominant religion of modern society. Less than a century and a half ago, Charles Darwin popularized the credo for this secular religion. Naturalism has now replaced Christianity as the main religion of the Western world, and evolution has become its principal dogma."

Many Christians who claim to believe that the Bible is God's revealed truth seem willing to allow modern scientific theories to replace the Genesis account of creation. Such compromises present a conspicuous danger. An essential book to read. No other book on the meaning of Genesis 1-3 can compare with it.
Excellent comments on evolution vs. creationism.
It's loaded with new insights--rarely seen in a Christian book.
You'll find the book hard to put down. It's that good.
Also the book is very biblical and devotional.
Don't miss reading this book. I loved it.
Caution: Be sure you get the hardback copy. The print in the paperback is too small to read. I first ordered
the paperback and then I ordered the hardback, which has readable print.

John presents a truth centered appproach to how compromising in the first view verses of Genesis leads to a faulty view of all of scripture. If you don’t understand point A and you think your conclusions on B,C,D,E, and F will be accurate, than you might be a madman.

I would recommend this book to anyone, believers as well as unbelievers. I've already recommended this book with my family and friends, with positive results. John McArthur always does his homework before expressing his thoughts on Scripture. And this book is no exception.

A must read for Christians who want to better understand and defend the biblical account of creation. This book makes a clear and compelling case that biblical inerrancy leaves no room for evolution, and one must chose one or the other.
