Burtchaell required this book as part of his Theology of Grace course at Notre Dame. I remembered it being a powerful argument against the notion of a vengeful God. Re-reading it many years later, I realized how much of my belief system it shaped. Even though the material is quite thought provoking, Burtchaell's prose is so inviting that you just want to keep reading rather than put the book down and contemplate what he has just said. A truly excellent book.
