The Cost of Discipleship compels the reader to face himself and God in any situation. Bonhoeffer speaks of 'Cheap Grace': preaching forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, communion without confession. Cheap Grace' is grace without discipleship. Costly Grace' is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the gift which must be asked for, the door at which a man must knock. Willard’s book, Hearing God: Developing a Conversational Relationship with God, hopes to prove that as with all close personal relationships, we can surely count on God to speak to each of us when and as it is appropriate, (10). Willard answers with two words: By experience. In other words, the longer we live and the more familiar we become with God’s voice, the more readily we will recognize it. That, honestly, is not much help.

The passion the author holds for the Bible is clear in this book. Not a memorization course, but a set of devotionals on WHY memorizing and meditation on scripture should be done. I found this book inspiring and helpful in encouraging me to continue in the spiritual discipline of memorization.

My wife and I just finished this [Kindle version] as a devotional and benefited greatly from it. 30 short chapters with additional "practice" and lots of scripture. I lead a bible study in my home and have incorporated scripture memory into each meeting. Each person in attendance is encouraged to share a memory verse each week; this has been a challenge for our people, but that is a good thing. I have promoted this book for several weeks, hoping they too will realize the richness of Mr. Kang's book.

A friend in Cambodia gave me this book (and I bought the Kindle version too). We did a weekly book study on Skype. I loved how the book was organized: Easy to manage chapters--short in length, thoughtful in depth and superb practices. I've read many books, pamphlets, and studies on memorization, but this one spoke truth and practical application in equal measure, the best I've found. Heartily recommend it. Works well for both the group and individual.

This is an eminently practical book on scripture memorization, packed with concrete inspirations on WHY to memorize, as well as HOW to and great starter suggestions on verses.

The author writes with a beautiful tone, in short and focused chapters. There aren't many anecdotes, which is also a strength as I have found a lot of Christian how-tos tend to use a distracting number of anecdotes.

The book itself is nicely put-together visually, with an appealing font and simple style.

This book is AMAZING!! I think I've bought about 5 copies already--one for myself and four to give out to friends for birthdays, graduations, etc.--and I will continue to do so.

I think we all can agree that Scripture memorization is not necessarily "easy". We're busy people and for those of us who try to make it a daily habit to read the Word, we barely have enough time to read, let alone memorize. But Rev. Kang is truly inspiring, encouraging and urges the importance of meditating on God's Word. There are 30 short, eloquently written chapters that easily accompany a daily devotional and a few "practice" chapters sprinkled throughout that offer very practical advice!

I've always wanted to memorize large chunks of Scripture. I was inspired by one of my seminary professors who can spit out any number of passages and verse references (all memorized!) for any topic. Wouldn't it be great if I could memorize the whole Bible?? Well, after reading Rev. Kang's book, I started with Psalm 1 (he spends some time on this Psalm in his conclusion) and now I've memorized Psalm 103, too!

Basically, READ THIS BOOK!! And then read it over, again. I've already started my second round through. It will give you continual support, conviction and encouragement in your endeavors to grow in your knowledge of the Lord.

A reflective and thought provoking book that teaches a wholistic approach to Scripture memory; starting with your motivation. It is not filled with guilt trips; it is filled with devotional, meditative, and practical steps toward a scriptural soundness for your life.
