This is the third book in a trilogy. I was able to get the first two at the library but this one was not available, so I got it for my kindle. This author writes very interesting books, as the characters are believable, and she manages to bring all aspects into her books--interesting historical themes, relationship issues, drama and bits of humor too. From what I have read of her, she researches the history she writes about and I find she does a good job of accurately portraying it--this trilogy deals with issues of our country's battle with slavery during the mid 1800s. I am searching for more of her books as I find she has a way with words and developing her characters. I think I just must be in the mood at the moment for history and looking into what people dealt with during those earlier times!

"The Pattern of Her Heart" is a fantastic ending to a beautiful trilogy. Set in the mid 1800's, these three books tell a story that needs to be heard. By reading this series, you will have an opportunity to intimately see what life was like for a wealthy, southern girl, living up north, in an extremely tumultuous time in our country's history. The facts are there making this reading a fascinating way to learn and study history. The Lights of Lowell series is good for leisure reading, or wonderful for a history supplement to encourage young adults to learn about this part of our history.

I enjoyed all three of these wonderful books. Tracie Peterson is a gifted and prolific author who takes care to research the historical events in her novels. This story shows the courage of a family to go against their former neighbors and extended family members to free the slaves on their family's plantation. If you've read the series from the beginning, you see how far our heroine has come from a naïve socialite to a pillar of strength for her family. Great story that show the many aspects of the fight against slavery.
