In Bousset's Kyrios Christos the topic becomes directly relevant in the presentation of the primitive Palestinian . necessary to develop a picture of pre-Pauline Hellenistic Christianity, and he prefaces the chapters on Paul and John with just such a presentation.

In Bousset's Kyrios Christos the topic becomes directly relevant in the presentation of the primitive Palestinian community, but indirectly it remains current throughout the entire work, because according to Bousset in Hellenistic Christianity the cultically revered ttKyrios Christos" has appeared in the place of the eschatological figure of the ((Son of Ma. One may say that this view in the meantime has become the common property of the historical study of the New Testament.

In Kyrios Christos, Wilhelm Bousset argues that the Hellenistic Church's declaration of "Jesus as Lord" is a transformation of the pre-Christian Judaic community's understanding of Jesus as the Son of Man. This unique distinction between the primitive Palestinian community and Hellenistic Christianity reveals how the earliest Christian beliefs were informed by existing religious influences.

I hate to write a sort-of bad review on this book, because I think the author is obviously brilliant. I can also flip through the pages and find interesting text. However, you need to be smarter than me to understand this one. But don't be discouraged, that means many of you still qualify.

This book presumes the reader knows Greek and uses the Greek to illustrate various points in the book. It's clearly an upper-level read for a true scholar in this field of study, not a hacker like me. If somebody would study this and dumb it down to my level, that would be great. Bart Ehrman maybe? Robert Eisenman?

I'm putting it on the shelf for a spot reference, but I don't plan on reading it in entirety.

A classic text that remains of a work of huge importance.
