Known in history as Lady Randolph Churchill, Jennie Spencer Churchill was born in Brooklyn, NY to a wealthy family in 1854. Renowned for her beauty, as well as for being a socialite, Jennie was also a talented musician and was quite adept at playing the piano. Prior to reading this, I knew nothing about her life except that she was beautiful, had many affairs, was an American who married into the British aristocracy, and was the mother of Winston Churchill. She was so much more than that.

A fascinating story about Winston Churchill's mother. She was a strong woman who marched pretty much to her own drummer. The book includes many letters Winston wrote to her when he was sent away to boarding school. He adored his mother and was very lonely.

What a marvelous book (one of two books by this author covering many years of American born Jennie Churchill's life). Fascinating woman and a remarkable life. Winston Churchill could have turned out a very different person indeed -- if he'd followed the dreams of his father. Thank God tough-minded Winston had somehow developed more common sense and more hope for the world as a whole than the examples set by either of his parents. Wish there were someone like him around these days.

You will enjoy reading about the exploits and life of this American woman who took England, and much of Europe, by storm. Could not put it down, lost a lot of sleep.

This was well researched, giving many details I had never heard of. Certainly a good background for greater understanding of Winston.
History written as a wonderful drammic and romantic story from the personal letters and documents. It is sad that the art of writing has been reduced to the electronic message.
