The Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid AL Maktoum, who is the author, is simply an enigma! He is a true visionary. It properly shows what a head of state can do. I adore our Queen in the UK, she has done an outstanding job as Head of State for us, but her successor, be it Prince Charles, or with luck Prince William should read this book. A Head of State CAN inspire a country and give a longer term view than simply the government of the day. Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum shows how a people can be rejuvenated - the UK needs this.

We in the United Arab Emirates, led by my brother, UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, are continuing the work begun by the late His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and our father the late His Highness Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in the early 1970s, when they took the first steps towards forming our. blessed federation. An alternate title to the book might be: "Why I'm So Great: a Love Song to Myself, by My Highness Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid. The book does not really discuss the ruler of Dubai's vision, except his vision of himself. Not only is he the world's best leader, he's even the world's best horse jockey. Very few specifics are mentioned in the book, leading one to believe that the ruler is just the inheritor of a great vision. And there WAS a great vision; the UAE are probably the best posed country among the GCC to survive the oil.

The author provides valuable insights into developing a modern country with a modern society. However, I remain with little insight on how Dubai transformed from a trading outpost to a financial centre. The author provides precious little history and information on how this transition occurred. Also, the author appears to downplay the role oil revenues played in aiding this transformation. The author has further provided little insights on democracy and the fact that he dies not have to compete on the market for ideas to remain in power - he is a monarch.

Overall however, it is a decent read on managing the development process, albeit, one that reads like a party manifesto.

The book does not really discuss the ruler of Dubai's vision, except his vision of himself. Spoiler alert: he likes himself. Not only is he the world's best leader, he's even the world's best horse jockey. Very few specifics are mentioned in the book, leading one to believe that the ruler is just the inheritor of a great vision. And there WAS a great vision; the UAE are probably the best posed country among the GCC to survive the oil crunch into the 22nd century. They have a slightly diversified economy, and functional free trade zones, and the best deepwater port on the gulf (Duqm came too little, too late, even though it's geographically favorable). However, you won't learn much from this particular book. It's really just a bunch of shallow philosophy and rambling memories of what his dad did, with constant self-flattery. You would be better served by a quick trip to Dubai, along the street that the ruler named after himself, and see the spectacular skyscrapers and megamalls. The buildings and landscaping are absolutely beautiful, true monuments to the extraordinary vision of the sheikh's forefathers to found a city on top of a large reserve of dead dinosaurs.

For anyone interested in a true leader and visionary's perceptions on leadership, life, and love for his people, this is a
"must read". From lessons shared from his mentors to his own experiences and sage insight, H.E. Sheikh Mohammed shares his passion, determination, drive, and vision that are the very catalysts and roadmap to Dubai's meteoric rise to rock star status in the international community and the esteemed designation as the "epicenter of modern innovation". Interesting vision for Dubai. The book is quite inspiring yet repetitive. Gives good historical background of the Sheikh and why he is passionate about Dubai's development.

My family actually built their Jebel Ali Harbor which is fully explained in the book. I was the young Lawyer for the project back in 1977. The Ruler and I are the same age but we haven't met. I've watched the country's transition which made reading the book extremely enjoyable. Thank you for putting it on the iPad. Jim Zenga

Sheikh Rashid Al Maktoum is a visionary. He is an entrepreneur. He makes me want to make the United States a business. I am sure it would run more efficiently if it was. I also think that the Sheikh is a model of a manager. The way that he loves his country, his citizens, and his staff is very genuine and humble.
Great book. It shows how one many with a vision (if in the right place) can truly move a country forward and transform it forever.
