I was invited to participate in the first issue of Jennifer Camper’s terrific anthology, Juicy Mother. The theme was celebrations, so I decided to make fun of gay wedding or commitment ceremonies. At the time, these rituals meant nothing legally and very little to me as a person; they were self-indulgences for people who liked ritual. The magnum opus that nearly did me in. I counted once and discovered that there were something like 325 faces in this story. Seven pages; drawn 1987; published in Gay Comix reprinted in the book Gay Comics.

Being a gay man myself, when I collected comic books, I found the mainstream comics to be way too hetero. Then came the eighties when many comic artists came literally out of the closet. Cruise may be the most notable of the gay cartoonists. But they are many more, and their represented here in this excellent compelation. I really admire Alison B.sDYKES TOO WATCH OUT FOR. I find Iit funny, honest and she is a great cartoonist. There was a long lasting series published by Last Gasp in the 1980s and 1990s called GAY COMIX. I have many issues of this series and by what ebay is selling them for appears to be quite collectors items. And for a primer of LGBT cartoonists you CANNOT go wrong with this volume. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

While it may look garish, this volume is interesting as an historical reference as well as entertainment. It traces the history of the gay comic as well as greatly amusing to audience. You can see the passing of the years of the gay culture in its pages. Highly recommended.
