For an Autocad user such as myself who wanted to get to know the program better; this was a dud. This looks like a doctorial thesis someone wrote who didn't have the license to show the basic menus.

YouTube is a much better place to pick up on the menus; how to use them; and if you're really serious there are programs you can subscribe to that allows you to learn the programs on your own.

This book is good if you like to learn software by reading books, and the value of the book is that it gives you a place to start, if you are clueless. It is important to know the general basics of drafing and using CAD software. This book has a nice organization and a friendly way of getting a new user, or a user that has been away from CAD softare for a long time, to catch-up, and come into the 21st century to learn how things are done with tons of icon menus, rather than the old-fashioned way of memorizing hundreds of command-line sequences (am I dating myself?) For those who are wanting to get started, but are timid, this is a good starting point. There is much more to know, but you can get that from help menus, or also from more advanced books. Help menus are a lot better than they used to be.

This book provides the basic coverage of AutoCAD 2011. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad. There are a lot of new features in the 2011 version and this book covers the bulk of them. Good sense of humor makes the readking light. Needs more examples, but all included examples are complete. Little short on the use of the ribbon, but AutoCAD is still driven by the command line and the author shows that the command line is still and essential piece of AutoCAD (author is not responsible for the failings of AutoCAD). For designing buildings, a comparison with Revit would be useful.

For the price, this is a great reference text.

Autocad for Dummies is exactly what I needed. I used Autocad years ago but needed both a refresher and where to find some of the functions. Autocad for Dummies made that very easy to find and get back up to speed.

The service from Amazon was very fast the book arrived within 2-3 days of the order, faster than promised.

I have a large collection of "Dummies" books. Each book has a quick reference on material that is not used everyday.
