This was my first venture into office and I had no idea what the office suite is. After going through this book in class I became an medium level user, but not yet expert. This book is written very well, the illustrations are nice and are on point. It was easy to follow the lessons and outlines of the chapters. Honestly I sometimes go back and check for stuff I cant easily find on google. Highly recommend if you still have office 2003.
Good luck and in no time you will improve!

Needed for a class.

Bought it for my hubby, who still has MS Office 2003 on his computer. As most guides, it has some helpful tips in it.

It was helpful at the time, but MS completely changed office, so the book is pretty useless now since it's mostly a "click here then there" type of manual.

Needed this product for a computer class i was taking. This was a very basic guide and would be great for beginners. A bit too basic for my taste.

I was very pleased with the previously used textbook I ordered through Amazon. The seller's description of the textbook and its condition was spot on and the price could not be beat. My order was delivered on a timely basis and I would definitely feel confident with any purchases I may need to make in the future.

I am a novice with Word X.

About a year ago, I purchased the Word X "visual Quickstart Guide" book by Maria Langer and found it to be a very good book. A couple of weeks ago, I wanted to do something very simple.... I wanted to type a long list of books, and DVD's I own.... and then have Word X organize them in Alphabetical order. (I didn't care if they were in a table or not).

Perhaps I am stupid, but I spent hours reading every chapter on Tables, Lists, Rows, and Ascending.... but I coun't find a simple explanation on how to alphabetize a list. I searched Word X's "help" and found nothing about alphabetizing.

(What I did find was lots of information that was as clear as mud.)

This was beyond irritating!!!! I spent another hour screwing around with every tool until I figured it out on my own.

But, I was angry that something so simple to do.... was not "simply" explained in the Quick Start book or in Word X "help".

The next day, I ordered a "Visually" and "Simplified" (Word X) books.

When the books arrived, I couldn't belive the "Visually" Word X- book did not have the word "sort" or "alphabetize" in their index!

The "Simplified" word X book had the word "sort" in the index, but it was about sorting "Tables" and and "Row".... not Alphabetizing the words inside the tables and rows.

Today ,while in a bookstore, by chance I found this Microsoft Office Word 2003 book. And just out of curiosity, I looked in the index. And there it was. "Sort List" On page E-9 .... This book had the simple instructions on how to sort a list in ALPHABETICAL sequence!

Thank you Jennifer Duffy! I just wish I knew about your book a few weeks ago.
This book really makes it much easier to learn the basics of using Windows XP, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint (I don't have my book with my right now, but I think they teach about Outlook, too...?). It gives you "steps" excercises through each unit fully and clearly explaining how to complete each task, with plenty of notes and explanations for other things related to the task. The SAM's training companion CD is really nice, also. It really gives you good hands-on experience with exercises related the things they teach you in the book. I gave it a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star rating because the book has a metal binder that is very annoying, and because the book requires that you download data files from the internet specifically related to this book for you to be able to do most of the exercises in the book, instead of including the data files on a CD with the book, so most people who are not familiar as much with computers will have trouble finding out how to get the data files to use with the book. The instructions for downloading the data files is probably at the back of the book somewhere, but I just went to the website of the book's publisher to find them. Other than that, it is a very good book for learning the basics of Windows and the most popular Microsoft Office applications.
