The book, The Gourmet Chinese Regional Cookbook by Calvin and Audrey Lee became my introduction to Chinese cooking. Chinese Roast Por. made that recipe and others from that book for many years. As the years went by I moved on to cooking ‘regular American’ dishes but I remember how wonderful that roasted pork was and how much fun and pride I felt with making the perfect Chinese Roast Pork for family and friends

For decades, when our library carried this book, it was my go-to source for a wide variety of regional Chinese recipes. I loved it. Then one day, I stopped at our library to pick it up, and it was gone (probably because the page with the Kung Pao Chicken recipe was splattered with black bean sauce). I looked all around the internet until I found a like new copy on Amazon.

Of course, to celebrate, we cooked up a batch of Kung Pao and Shrimp And Lobster Sauce (and just for old time's sake, we sprinkled a little black bean sauce on the Kung Pao page).

I purchased this book to replace the one that was lost in a move. I believe I ordered "new." This book is in great condition, but it is not new. The previous owner had ingredients for some recipes checked off. Also, there was a shopping list left inside the book. Good thing I purchased this for myself and not as a gift. This is a great recipe book. Anyone who purchases it will not be disappointed with the variety and number of recipes. Too
bad there are no photographs of the food.

Ever since I downloaded the Kindle version of this book, I've wanted a hard copy. It's an excellent overview and details the regional cooking of many of the lesser known regions of China. Yankee Clipper got the book out and delivered within a few days. It's in excellent condition.

I received this as a wedding gift in 1982. What a gem. It is terrific; I cannot imagine why it is no longer in print. The recipes are great and easy to follow, and the information about the regional cuisines is fantastic. One of my favorite (of many) cookbooks, and definitely my favorite Asian one. My only quibble is that the recipes sometimes carry over so you have to turn the page; I just make a copy, though.

My mom has had this cookbook for years, I have the original. I got this one for my daughter so she can see what she can make. Love Asian cooking.

I learned to cook Chinese from a friend and this book. I have bought several copies over the last 30 years as they wear out. Contrary to another reviewer, I adore the organization and find the recipes extremely easy to navigate. The ingredients are listed in order of use, making the creation of the mis-en-place a snap! It's fun to try less familiar dishes and all have been well-received by friends and family.

This is not just a cookbook. It explains the regional history and the types of food for each region. If you like cooking and history this is the book for you! Love it!
I purchased this book 20 or so years ago and have lived by only a few of its fabulous dishes--shrimp, eggplant, cabbage. Worth it for that alone. It is authentic and essential. But don't buy up all the copies leaving no future gifts for me. I keep wearing it out.
