This book has 30 well written lessons to teach comprehension strategies to students. It gives a specific picture book to use and then a detailed lesson to go with it. It hits the main reading comprehension strategies of many successful and highly praised structures and programs, including Cafe/Daily 5 and Reading Apprenticeship. I teach 4th grade and my co-teacher and I have decided that this will be the book to launch our school year, taking what our students have learned from K-3 with the Cafe/Daily 5 to another level, getting them ready to move on to Reader's Apprenticeship starting in 6th grade.

I am a fist year teacher teaching 5th grade. I did all my student teaching in 2nd grade so I needed help teaching 5th graders. This book has amazing ideas and I am currently teaching the visualizing chapter (4 lessons). The lessons scaffold but can also be taught individually. This would be a great resource even for 2nd grade, but my 5th graders are enjoying the lessons.

Great product with easy to follow lesson plans and ideas.
Good text to go with "Strategies that Work"
Love the books that are recommended although they have cost me a fortune to purchase them and send to Melbourne Australia. ( but all good books cost money)
There is a very good list of extra titles that can be used for the lessons.
I plan to use these lessons with two classes of students. The book is a great way to build up techer confidence with the strategies before substituting other titles, which I will with Australian books.

I love...love...love this book. I really like the idea of teaching comprehension strategies using picture books and along with the graphic organizers it has really proven to be effective. My students really enjoyed the stories and even clapped after I read them. I have noticed an overall improvement in their abilities to inference and gain deeper understanding of text. A+ for this book.

This is a great book with many wonderful lessons. I love using picture books in my classroom and this gives me that much more structure. Some of the suggested books are hard to find. However, they make it easy enough to use these lessons with any book!

I love the mentor texts used in conjunction with these lessons. However, I teach 3rd grade and think that some of the lessons were a little too challanging and needed to be modified, but I would recommend it.
I use this all the time! Just make sure you invest in buying the picture books to make it more convenient.
