Ordered this for the normal reasons.. didn't have money for hard copy but needed both books. EXCEPT once I downloaded kindle it turns out I only received the Shop Manual. I am not the only one in my class with this issue either. NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

I bought this book almost 5 years ago while in Auto tech school to supplement a lousy text we had to use in our auto electronics class.
This book is excellent in the way it presents the subject matter; also covers 'scope useage in a clear and understandable matter.
I looked a several books before buying this one; it had all the details and material that I was needing.
If you are wanting a deep understanding of automotive electronics and has to test and repair today's complex vehicles, this is the book to buy.
I finished my automotive program 3 years ago and have advanced to Master ASE certified with L1. This book gave me the foundation and understanding of electronic systems that I needed to build upon.
Get this book and you will not be disappointed.

Though its slightly an older version (2010) it is very informative about auto electronics. It is meant for training professional mechanics in the field, however if you want to learn more about your vehicles electrical system and how it works than this is for you. I bought mine used though which only cost me $10 bucks or so. The new textbook runs over $100. Also the author goes into detail a lot about the DSO (digital oscilloscope). Since most of these machines are out of the cost range of a home mechanic, you may want to just ignore those chapters.

this is ridiculous I paid the money to receive both copies of this book and only received the shop manual. it would be nice to know if this is just a glitch or if I got screwed. either you guys fix this or I will like to receive a refund in full

This book is great for the purpose of becoming familiar with the car electricity. I'm glad to have gotten it. It will enhance and help me acquire knowledge in this area.

Great book, written well, clear and concise. The diaphragms and photos are excellent.
This like all automotive books from Thompson Delmar publishing tries to cover everything. The problem is it doesn't have enough detail to fully explain the theories being discussed. How can Hall effect sensors be fully explained without a picture of what it actually looks like in an automotive shop environment? Automechanics must know how to test a hall effect sensor to properly diagnose a crank no start condition. This test is done on the signal wire coming out of the sensor. There is only one signal wire coming from a hall effect sensor in an engine. On page 312, it shows a hall effect sensor with two signal wires going out of it. Which wire would be tested? The picture is misleading. That's just one example of many of how this book cuts corners and shortchanges in explaining.
If you need this book for class, pray that you have a conscientious teacher who will fully explain all the misleading pictures in this book. If you don't have a good teacher, you will most likely have to buy books by Halderman to understand what is being discussed in class and then you will be prepared to understand this book. If you can understand everything in this book then you are either a genius or you have been exposed to automotive electronics in a professional or hobbyist setting. In either case why even bother signing up for an automotive electronics class? I would give one star to this book but it challenged me and pointed in me in the right direction of what to study if I'm going to make any money from repairing automotive electronics. For that it gets two stars.
