I needed this book for an Intro to Landscape Architecture class, and I have to say that I'm more and more impressed the further I read. Basically, it's the most concise yet complete and informative "textbook" I've ever purchased for an introduction to a new subject. (I have the word "textbook" in quotes since you could certainly own this book for any reason other than school and you'd still be happy with it.) I'm enjoying the way the information is laid out and I appreciate how easy it is to comprehend. If you are even just a little bit curious about Landscape Architecture, you won't regret adding this book to your library!

The book begins with an easy-to-follow yet informative overview of landscape history accompanied by some beautiful imagery of prominent projects.

The following chapters guide the reader through the various stages of the design process right from the initial site investigation to ideas for final representation. The book includes work from several influential designers, past and present, as well as a really useful directory of contacts and resources, at the back of the book.

In my opinion, one of the key successes of this book is that it clearly informs the reader of the huge range of roles and subject areas that exist within landscape architecture, such as landscape management and conservation, design for public spaces within cities as well as the role that Landscape Architects will play in relation to climate change and sustainability.
