Description

William K. Kershner was a certified flight instructor, naval aviator, and corporate pilot. I have recently begun flight training for my Private Pilot's license.

William K. The recipient of many aviation awards, including the General Aviation Flight Instructor of the Year, he is the author of The Flight Manuals series. Series: The Flight Manuals Series. I made the decision to self-study for the FAA Knowledge Test (AKA - the written) and to take the test before beginning my actual flight lessons. The Student Pilot's Flight Manual was one of my primary sources of reading and study material during my test preparation. I took the test in April of 2015 and scored 90%.

The ultimate volume in the Kershner Flight Manuals Series, The Advanced Pilot's Flight .

The ultimate volume in the Kershner Flight Manuals Series, The Advanced Pilot's Flight Manual is for pilots transitioning to advanced models and types, and preparing for their Commercial Pilot knowledge and flight tests. It bridges the gap between theory and practical application, covering the fundamentals of airplane aerodynamics and aircraft performance.

The Commercial license preparation manual from Kershner's "The Flight Manuals Series. Bill Kershner believes that the average pilot could learn the basics of airplane performance very easily if the involved mathematics were bypassed. Therefore one of the purposes of this book is to bridge the gap between theory and practical application, covering the fundamentals of airplane lift, weight, drag, and thrust

The FB home of the manuals written by William K. Kershner. I will be keeping these books up-to-date. This is the cover of the very first Student Pilot’s Flight Manual (1960), the book that started the series.

The confused bird (bird outline with a question mark) first appeared in this book in the background of a humorous drawing about errors made by the student on a practice forced landing and the instructor’s debrief as they go through a fence. The illustrations in this book were done manually by William K. Kershner, either free hand. or using true cut-and-paste methods (really, cutting a drawing out and gluing it into position).

Wow. Just, wow. I’m deep into chapter two and have already learned so much in comparison to the other material I’ve studied. Kershner was an absolute genius. This book isn’t all trigonometry, and math equations from your college days as the description would have you seem; it’s extremely in-depth and goes beyond the basics, for ‘advanced’ learning. Definitely for the advanced pilot.

Perfect,Perfect,Perfect!!!!!
This books bridges the gap from introductory books and engineering text. It has the right amount of proof without having to look in the glossary for what the symbols mean. I could read this book over and over and learn something new each time. It is my new favorite aviation book. And I have A LOT of aviation books.
It's a MUST read!!

I recently bought the Flight Manuals Series by William K. Kershner as part of training towards my CFI rating; I wish I had known about it earlier, especially during my initial training. It goes in quite a bit more depth than the usual text books, which I find especially appealing as someone with a more technical leaning / background.

I purchased this book for help during my Commercial pilot certificate. The book is outstanding in terms of providing an explanation of the technical details of flight. That said, it is not for the pilot who wishes to avoid the mathematics and science of flight. For the technical "geeks" who want to understand the "why" of things in flight, this is for you. This book helped tremendously during my oral examination during the Commercial check ride and allowed me to confidently answer the examiner's questions. The biggest help was with the airplanes systems in terms of how they operated and well as the concepts of how the airplane is influenced by various external forces. I do recommend that you find a quiet place to read this book as it does require your full concentration.

Overall, this is an excellent book that will bring you the knowledge required and expected of an advanced level pilot. I'd recommend that this book be part of anyone's library who wants to understand the "why" of flying.

This manual is necessary for any pilot's bookshelf. Kershner's manuals are not written as test guides, but they provide the knowledge with which to understand airplanes more fully and check out in advanced models. This book should be purchased and read shortly after obtaining the private pilot's license and before purchasing a test guide for the commercial written. Kershner's wealth of experience and easy humorous style makes for easy reading. He backs up what he says with appropriate equations and diagrams, and this makes for an authoritative source. One should not be scared off by the equations, since they can be ignored, but are available for reference. The diagrams are not slick and in color, but they do the job and keep the cost of the book down.

good reference book

Much easier read than the FAA-H-8083 and still has the same information. Having both makes life a lot easier, and faster if you're studying for a check ride.
Helped get me through the practical for my commercial.
