Description

Justice League International (JLI) is a DC Comics superhero team written by Keith Giffen and J. M. DeMatteis, with art by Kevin Maguire, created in 1987

Justice League International (JLI) is a DC Comics superhero team written by Keith Giffen and J. DeMatteis, with art by Kevin Maguire, created in 1987. Following the events of company-wide crossovers Crisis on Infinite Earths and Legends, Justice League of America writer J. DeMatteis was paired with writer Keith Giffen and artist Kevin Maguire on a new Justice League series.

Giffen and DeMateis were masters of the quick wit and sometimes down right silliness that filled these pages. Aided by super star artist Kevin Maguire, who made every facial tick shine to the height of comic interpretation. This was great stuff. I fell in love with this off pace series, which was a nice relief in the angst ridden 80s comics. PIck up any of these issues and books for a good fun and often goofy time. 8 people found this helpful. Worth it if you like your comics to be witty and funny.

once again - kudos to Dc comics and amazon for bringing this collected version of the justice league international!! the series was well loved and now you will read why!! you open with the first JLI annual that finally spotlights the Martian manhunter - singlehandedly in a knockdown battle vs - the JLI?? then the top fan favorite JLI story - (BWAH-HAHAHAHA) moving day!! then a JLI member betrays and attacks our team in the worst place at the time - Bialya! will Captain Atom rescue the JLI in time? then thanks to the millenium crossover its off to fight aliens on a different planet with a one time only - SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT SUPERPOWERED JLI with Dr. Fate, Superman, green lantern Hal Jordan, Firestorm and more heroes galore - plus the first appearance of green lantern - gnort! then the JLI finally look into who maxwell lord is - if they survive a meeting with new god metron who is very angry at our team! this is really the final issue where kevin maguire is doing all the artwork. after this book you will start to see less of him and more of other artists - so enjoy!! in closing while this is an outstanding book - you may want to check out JLI vol 2! its the same book * plus * the crossover with JLI vs (a superteam book amazon must push)the suicide squad!! worth seeing batman vs rick flag jr!

Wow, the other reviewer just didn't get it.

In the mid 80s JLA came back with a bunch of second and third string super heroes, and they could only be viewed with a skewered and wry eye. These were funnybook heroes, being funny.

Whatever Whatever
I loved the JLI when it was funny. Especially Blue & Gold. This series really picks up by the end of this collection and only gets better as it goes, reaching it's peak by the time Blue & Gold try to build a resort on Kooey Kooey Kooey! Ah wish they would just collect the entire series in a HC collection. I know I would buy it.

It's almost impossible to believe that Giffen and DeMatteis could put so many jokes without having to recycle them. Check out their latest book too: Formerly Known As the Justice League (5 Stars) and I Can't Believe It's Not The Justice League (3 Stars).
