It’s a well known that fact that everyone would be healthier if we switched to a strictly plant based diet. Like most books promoting veganism, this book gets down and dirty with the details of what she calls ‘nasty. But, its another well known fact that. She says to cut out, meat, dairy, processed foods and refined sugar. That’s a given in all the things I’ve read. But, being kind to yourself, as she advertises, is a softer way of changing your lifestyle. She takes it slow and reminds us to take it as slow as. we need to. I liked this book, I don’t know if I will read it again, because it is so much like the other books I’ve read, but it’s definitely worth a try. And she is so cute.

I received a copy of Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet for my birthday this .

I received a copy of Alicia Silverstone's The Kind Diet for my birthday this past November and have never looked back. Reading the text, written in an approachable, no-nonsense style, made the decision seem so obvious and the recipes made the change effortless. Not only do we feel good that we are no longer supporting factory farming, but we feel healthier and more energetic. Books like this are the reason I created a "Quackery" tag. It's impossible to get past page one without being bombarded with warning signs on how intellectually light-weight the entirety of the book will be.

Whether you want to lose weight, get healthy, or help save the world, transitioning to a vegan diet is easy with advice, tips, and recipes from actress Alicia Silverstone. In The Kind Diet, actress, activist, and committed conservationist Alicia Silverstone shares the insights that encouraged her to swear off meat and dairy forever, and outlines the spectacular benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, from effortless weight loss to clear skin, off-the-chart energy, and smooth digestion. Meh... not as many recipes as I expected and the content in the book is very preachy. Example: No, my dog does not need to go vegan thank u very much. I do appreciate the context of being kinder to your body and eating clean wholesome foods. Just don’t expect this to be a cook book, it’s really an instructional manual on vegan lifestyle.

I LOVE this book! Alicia Silverstone is so inspiring. I was vegetarian several years ago and just recently felt drawn to eating more of a plant based diet again. Over the last 10 weeks I have transitioned to a vegan diet. First I cut out diet soda, then reduced overall sugar intake, then cut out meat, then dairy, then eggs. I really feel amazing. I have lost 11 pounds in these 10 weeks. It has just happened naturally and i am so happy with the food i have been eating. I am truly enjoying eating.

Her story makes this a 5 star, I just love how she explains her connection with all animals, the planet, and caring about humans in the most compassionate non-judgemental way. Her recipes are not for beginners necessarily but over time you get it and aim for less processed more locally grown organic. I would hope most intelligent people out there would not beat themselves up for eating some processed food to get over the transition to plant-based food. Animals don't care what you eat as long as you don't eat them and avoid most products that harm animals like palm oil. I honestly can't say enough good about this book and Alicia. Her approach with compassion to people and animals is so positive. I can only hope to be half as kind when I try to help people I meet become Vegan. I always recommend this book first. If someone continues to ask me I try to emulate her. This is the kindest way to live and you will only regret not doing it sooner.

This is a helpful book that addresses the Why and How of leading a vegan lifestyle, which the author terms, the Kind Diet, which is very apt. The reasons given are for animal rights, health benefits, and for the environment. The author has a kind and enthusiastic voice, which I find endearing and uplifting.

The How section is written in 3 parts, you can Flirt by adding more plant-based foods in your diet and start eliminating some animal products, or go Vegan, or go Superhero, which is a vegan diet that emphasizes certain foods more, and refrain from a few that the author lists. Most of her recommendations are grounded in scientific studies that she cites, or from her personal experience. She also includes many recipes to try out.

Easy to read, with plenty of interesting recipes to try out, and lots of reference lists to other researches or experts' books for further reading, this is a great read to start a kind, vegan lifestyle.

My favorite Vegan cookbook so far. I love all the info in the first few chapters great for someone just considering going vegan. Some simple recipes and some really unique and complex. I have tried many new food items due to this book.

I wanted to like this book. I’m giving it three stars because of the easy to understand and well written health information. However, the organization for types of meals you want to cook (e.g., breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) is awful. If you are a beginner, aren’t yet a healthnut, and want to try random recipes, this might be good for you. However, I want a cookbook filled with only healthy recipes and there were only a few provided in this cookbook at the very end and they were a little obscure. I couldn’t find numerous ingredients required and some of the items I could find were extremely expensive like ume plums. That’s coming from someone who buys all organic vegan ingredients, makes almost everything from scratch, and is willing to spend extra for healthy organic food. After making a few meals I wasn’t wowed like I was with other vegan cookbooks such as How Not to Die, Oh She Glows, Thig Kitchen, and Plant-Powered Families. Although this cookbook is only $11, I found a copy at my local library and decided to return this cookbook. If I wanted to give it another try I can check it out for free at the library.

This was one of the first book purchases when I began my Vegan journey and I still love it. I have recommended it to many of my friends who have been interested in turning to a healthier/vegan diet. Don't expect any "vegan junk-food" recipes in this book... It's all about clean-eating with great explanations behind the suggestions and recipes.
She provides three levels of approaching a vegan lifestyle: Flirting, Vegan and Superhero, which has a macrobiotic bent. Most of the recipes are Asian-inspired, which is fine except that there are a lot of unrecognizable ingredients. I haven't tried the recipes yet, but hope to move to less animal protein and have recipes for vegan friends.
