Series: Mysteries (Book 1045). And so the story goes. I was around in 1980 and while things weren't as PC then as they are today, I can remember my mother telling me not to stare at little people and certainly not to refer to them as midgets. Maybe we were just progressive. Anyway, it's an amusing book to have around.

Cam looked at the woman in the next line. She was wearing a red dress. We have to find that clown. Cam ran to where the clown had been just a few minutes earlier. This could be one of the most unintentionally offensive books ever written. One still has to wonder, though, what the author was thinking back in 1980 when she sat down and thought, "Hmm...what should I write about today? Ahh, yes, a group of intrepid youngsters who encounter a circus clown. But they meet him before they realize he's a clown and notice immediately he's a midget! In case they don't notice, I'll have Steve the midget clown make sure he introduces himself as a midget and a clown! Pulitzer." And so the story goes. I was around in 1980 and while things weren't as PC then as they are today, I can remember my mother telling me not to stare at little people and certainly not to refer to them as midgets. Maybe we were just progressive. Anyway, it's an amusing book to have around. I keep it in my 8th grade classroom as an example of pre-PC children's literature...it has a place of honor right beside "The Night Dad Went to Jail."
