Maggie is the main protagonist of the 2004 Disney animated film Home on the Range. Maggie was once a prize show cow belonging to Abner Dixon, and it is shown that she had won several prizes, including three Golden Udder awards, and was the original Miss Happy Heifer, which could explain her weight. However, Mr. Dixon was forced to sell her after Alameda Slim stole all of Dixon's cattle except for Maggie.

I purchased FAITH THE COW to read during our Mission time at Vacation Bible School and it was a perfect pick since our mission project was to support Heifer International this year. The author and illustrator have skillfully portrayed the story of the founding of Heifer International in a way that children can relate to on many levels. It's a story of caring and sharing that began in 1947 and continues helping individuals and communities around the globe. ~Bette A. Stevens, author of award-winning picture book AMAZING MATILDA Amazing Matilda: A Monarch's Tale and other books for children and adults.

I didn't realize this was a story about how Heifer Project International got started. I was hoping for a cute story about a Guernsey heifer named Faith to give to a grand daughter. Instead I got a book that was more of a "pat on the back" for the founders of Heifer Project. I believe in this cause and have contributed to it several times so hope that the money from sales of this book went on to help people in poor countries. Happy to spread the word about the cause, but just wasn't what I thought I was buying.

Very nice book to use as I taught children English as a second language. It is a great lesson about helping others.

I loved the pictures. I loved the story. I love the heifer project. This is a great book for kids but I am 59 and would recommend it to grownups too. It is a fast read though. :)

I gave my grandson a flock of chickens through Heifer Project and this book is a wonderful explanation of the "pay it forward" effect of giving through Heifer Project. The book is wonderful and met my expectations of the on-lin description.
my mom wrote this book. it's so funny. i love it ever so much because the artist, maggie sykora, did a fabulous watercolor job on this book. the pictures drip off the page into puddles of enlightened christian history into your lap. it's wonderful.
That, and learning about Heifer Project Int'l is great. It's such a wonderful organization and it's founding is pretty interesting. This is a pretty basic book (made for preschoolers and elementary kids, etc.) but it's really a good book. People are always telling my mom how much they love it, etc.. Kids are always enthralled with it for some reason and parents love that it's moralistic and historical and well written. I think you should pick it up. (however, i'm partial.)
