Start by marking Cinderella - Illustrated by Arthur Rackham as Want to Read: Want to Read savin. ant to Read. Wound up enjoying it for the translation of the story itself. Evans' retelling, while still sticking closely to the original, still managed to make the story interesting and entertaining despite my familiarity with the tale (Disney's version, admittedly). Arthur Rackham's illustrations were really nice, too. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would.

One of the most celebrated painters of the British Golden Age of Illustration (which encompassed the years from 1850 until the start of the First World War), Rackham’s artistry is quite simply, unparalleled. Throughout his career, he developed a unique style, combining haunting humour with dream-like romance. Presented alongside the text, his illustrations further refine and elucidate Perrault’s enchanting narrative.

Look at the orange and black. This has an unexpected halloween flavor. I'm a huge fan of that. It was a gift, and that was the same reaction the recipient had. I'd buy it for myself now Calla editions are great. They are easy to display because they look nice.

I remember encountering a copy of this book as a child and being enchanted by Rackham's silhouette illustrations. The text is also a charming if traditional take on Cinderella.

As an adult, this Rackham remained hard-to-find, and when originals popped up at antiquarian bookstores, the price was a bit much.

Calla does lovely reproductions, very good quality printing and paper. As I want this for reading and looking, and not as a "collectible" for resale later, it's perfect.

this book is not to be missed. the story is much more than the disneyfied versions, and it's perfect for a read-aloud to a child ready to graduate to chapters of a book. the pictures are singular and wildly spot-on in silhouette. so, all in all, it's amazingly good in both the language AND art fields.
