I read a chapter of this book each night to my boys, ages 10 and 12. They loved it. I'm not really into kid books, but even I enjoyed it. Strongly recommended for kids in that age group. Fun for a parent or grandparent to read with them.

This book wasa TERRIFIC. When I saw, I knew it was going to be good because I know the author, she's my neighbor! And ALL her books are great. The author uses her kids for her books. She has a son named Jeff, who happens to be the main character of the book. One of her other books, America's Most Wanted 5th Graders, features her son, Rob. This book is about when Jeff's teacher is out and substitutes are in. Jeff and his friends love to play pranks on them. Then Mrs. Wilder shows up, and she asks REALLY WEIRD. I'm not going to tell anymore, because you have to read the book! SO buy this book and read it.

The Revenge of the Substitute Teacher is good for elementary school kids in the third through the fifth grades. After they read this book they will appreciate their teachers a lot more. I probably would like this book more if I were younger. It was really intended for a younger audience. I believe that younger kids would really like this book. This story is about three kids who get stuck with the meanest and strictest teacher in the whole school, Mr. Manlin. They are in the fifth grade and their names are Jeff, Matt, and Chris. Jeff has an older brother named Dillon. All summer they had been waiting to know what classroom they were going to be in the next school year. One day Matt callled Jeff and asked him if he had found out what teacher he had been assigned. Jeff went downstairs to check the mail and found out that he had Mr. Manlin. Matt also had Mr. Manlin. They called their friend Chris and found out that he also had Mr. Manlin. The first few days of school one of the two class bullies named Larry got in trouble with Mr. Manlin. Larry was so mad that he told his Uncle what Mr. Manlin had done to him. That weekend Larry's Uncle and Mr. Manlin went away and nobody knew where they had gone. After that the class had a long strip of substitute teachers. Every substitute they had left because of the pranks that the kids had pulled on them. All of the substitutes left except for Ms. Wilder! Ms. Wilder was the worst substitute ever. Ms. Wilder had a lot of mood changes. She was really cheerful one minute and the next minute she got really angry and scared the kids. She ate weird foods and drank weird drinks. She also dressed weird. If you want to find out why she had a lot of mood changes read the book. The class thought she was out of her mind! The Revenge of the Substitute Teacher is a good book for ages 8-11.

This is a delightful comedy that had me smiling or laughing all though the book. For me as an adult, I found myself reminiscing about my days in grammar school and the kids then were no different than they are now. Getting through the day with minimum effort was many students' goal. What makes this such a hilarious book is when the substitute teacher turns the tables on her unruly pupils. I enjoyed the book and think that most kids will relate to this story.

Delightful! I think they should change the reading ages from 9-12 to 7-40! This was my nephew Tommy's first "chapter" book, and we took turns reading to one another! Off to a shaky start ("What's a substitute?" he asked) this instead turned out to be a great reading experience for him. Not much of a book lover, finally there was a book that was "funny, not boring," he claimed. The teachers were so real they came to life. The kids pranks were laugh out loud funny - only topped by the substitute's "back-at-you" responses. It's not often my nephew and I have the same taste in books, but this one appealed to both of us. Kudos to Ms. Lawrence, and off to "America's Most Wanted Fifth Graders," which I'm hoping we'll enjoy as much as this one.

This is a very funny book which had my children as well as myself laughing as we read. The theme of the book was also refreshing and new. It's not often an adult becomes the underdog when pitted against our, "less than innocent", offspring.
I found this to be a great book for both young people as well as adults.
