Cheeses run wild in the woods surrounding the town of Ratbridge, and men on. .

Cheeses run wild in the woods surrounding the town of Ratbridge, and men on horseback capture them and lead them to captivity, where they can be shepherded and then eaten. The cheese hunt is only the tip of the iceberg, though. First published in Britain back in 2005, this book made its way to the United States a couple years later. In Here Be Monsters! we see some critters that are, technically, considered monsters because they're not human-boxtrolls, cabbageheads, and so on. But most of them are pretty considerate and nice, so that makes us wonder: Should we keep calling them monsters? Have they really earned the title?

I bought this after seeing a preview for the upcoming movie (The Boxtrolls). I figured I could have a 'family read' of it with the motivation that we must finish before the movie comes out in September, and then we can see the movie. I really didn't need the motivator. My kids are captivated (ages 7 and 9) and so am I (age undisclosed)! They beg for more chapters. My 9 year old wants to 'read ahead'. An awesome book for all ages.

We've been reading together each night for 2 weeks and we are already 200 pages in.

The kids study the illustrations for clues (what great pictures). I can't say enough.

LOVE IT.

I bought this book because I absolutely love the movie on DVD: The Boxtrolls. This book was a quick and delightful read with many more characters besides the Boxtrolls. The Ratbridge Nautical Laundry kept me in smiles and bursts of laughter. Thank you, Alan Snow, for a wonderful story for us adults who enjoy a light-hearted read.

My 8 year old son and I have been reading this book together each night. He is enjoying the e-book very much. Most of the chapters are short so we can choose to read just one or two chapters if we are in bed a little later than usual. We have not seen the movie yet so it will be a treat to see the characters come to life on the screen.

The upcoming movie, "the Boxtrolls," looks so cute that I had to read the book first! It was delightful and fun. Ratbridge is an odd little world with lots of crazy creatures that pull together to fight the real "monsters."
