FUN AND EDUCATIONAL! Great Book!
I love the fact that when reading to my 4 year old daughter, she is learning new words and the meanings of each new word. Reading not only this book but other Fancy Nancy books has exposed my daughter to words she can use to expand her Vocabulary! In the back of this book are a list of Fancy Nancy's Fancy Words.... Vocabulary words that were used in the story, along with the meaning. My daughter and I practice at the end of the story... I say the word and she tells me the meaning (ie: Delectable = Yummy) Now what 4 year old would ever use the word Delectable,,, My 4 year old!

My daughter, Nancy, remains a big fan of the Fancy Nancy series and, I must say, I enjoy reading them to her. As the oeuvre continues to grow, however, some books seem to rise to the top of the reading list while others falter. My Nancy's favorite is clearly the Posh Puppy followed closely by the original book and Bonjour Butterfly. This one does not seem likely to rise into the top three.

Of course, there's nothing wrong with the story which centers on Nancy's sister's birthday. Nancy uses nearly all her money to buy her sister a present and then opens a yard sale style boutique to raise money to buy herself something. It goes awry when her sister wants as her birthday present a necklace Nancy sells. Being a good sister, Nancy gets the necklace back and gives it as a present, as well as saves the day when rain threatens to spoil the party.

In the end, however, this story is just a bit flat. The artwork is still fantastic and it's pleasant enough, but it seems to lack the energy and nice, subtle moral of the other books. (In fact, I'm not sure I like the fact that Nancy ends up with her desire at the end.) Other than the big reveal of Nancy's sister's name--which I won't give away here--there's not a lot that's as memorable as Nancy's slip at the ice cream parlor, Jewel "gak"ing in Nancy's dress, or the butterfly garden in the other books.

Still, time will tell. Maybe the story will grow on my daughter and me, as some of the other books have done. I'm certainly happy to have it on the shelf.

My 5 year old daughter loves Fancy Nancy and baking, so this is one of her favorite books. We have given it to her teacher as a class gift and again to a couple friends on their birthdays. Much like Fancy Nancy, my daughter has a large vocabulary and is delighted to use big, fancy words. A great series for kindergarten to second grade girls.

My granddaughter's favourite book. This has been read, and read, and read, and... I got her some Fancy Nancy hoping to draw her in and overcome some of the resistance to doing her reading time. She was fine with being read TO, but resistant to reading, herself. She loves this, and wanted to read it every night. I've gotten her more Fancy Nancy books simply to save her parents from the one-book focus. VERY pleased.

My daughter loves this series--it's definitely influenced her vocabulary. I love hearing my 2.5 year old use words like "persuade," and "rhinestone." This book in particular advocates for earning the objects of your desire, and being patient and resilient when you hit that inevitable speed bump.

What else can be said about another one of wonderful "Fancy Nancy" books? If your children love "Fancy Nancy", they will love this book. We have several, and this one adds to the collection. The stories are fun and beautifully illustrated. My girls love to look at the illustrations and often pick one of these books for a bedtime story. They are "just the right length." We have even given them as birthday gifts and the girls ( ages 3-7 has been my experience) all love them!

Such a sweet story. My daughter has recently been enthralled with the fancy Nancy books, we've checked out several from our library but as soon I read this one I knew I would be buying it. It's such a sweet story of sibling love. Highly recommend this one.
Super cute books! My girls love them! Every little "girly" girl needs to know Nancy! As a teacher and a mom of three little girls, I appreciate each story's lesson and the enriching vocabulary that is introduced in each book. The illustrations are fun and really add to the story. My only suggestion is to get the hardcover books because they're going to want to read them over and over :0)
