My toddler loves to play 'fireman' and loves books, so I thought this would go nicely in his collection. However, don't let the name fool you. The first page has a little boy playing fireman and the mother wants a hug, but the boy says he doesn't have time to hug her! Then as the book goes on, the little boy plays space man, garbage truck driver, etc etc etc...and in every scenario, his mother wants a hug but he has no time. Finally in the end, you think the mother will finally get her hug, right? Wrong! It says, 'sometimes' he has time to hug his mom!

In reading this to my son, I actually changed it up a bit and every time mom asked for a hug, she got one! And then my son & I would hug every time and THEN it was finally a good fun read! But as written....it's horrible!!!!

Such a boy book!! It not only tells about firefighters but construction workers, race car drivers & police officers. Very cute and has some "big" words & precise tools that these professions deal with daily, teaching kids more about the professions they love.

Probably not a book that you'll likely read to kids too often. The story-line is long, predictable, redundant (without repeating, so children can't easily "chime in"). The artwork is great and creative.

I actually bought it for my son who is a firefighter - simply because of the title. Didn't realize that the firefighter is only briefly mentioned, the majority of the book is about many occupations. (Which may be more interesting for kids, unless if they actually wanted a book about firefighters).

**Spoiler Alert: Its not the firefighter occupation that hugs their mom. So the cover title is a bit misleading. (And so the purpose of a mom giving this book to her firefighter son wasn't quite as funny / endearing).

Cutest best book ever! The imagination is incredible! My 4 1/2 year old loves it! We read a lot of books and right now his obsession is on firefighters! This book is great! So Happy!

Especially when they are getting to the age where they don't want to hug you anymore. lol After reading this at bedtime, I received a hug from each of my children.
JUST DO IT JUST DO IT
I bought this for a young grandson who was having a difficult time when his dad was deployed to Iraq. He was taking his anger out on his mom, so I gave him this book for Christmas. Although my grandson continued to have difficulties dealing with his anger, I believe this book helped him to see his mother as a loving person who deserved his love.
Sorryyy Sorryyy
My 5 year old son just loves stories being read to him. This book does not only have great illustrations but it captures the imagination of children. I, myself was drawn to the story. No wonder my son is always requesting that I read this story to him again and again. It shows that hero quality in children and the love of children towards their mother.
I just bought this book for my 3 1/2 year old for Christmas. We have borrowed it from the library and he absolutely loved it. We read it over and over again (even the same night). The book has wonderful illustrations and shows children using their imagination in their play. (Like when the boy uses the vacuum cleaner hose as his fire hose. Fabulous). I am sure we will get many more years of enjoyment out of it.

As for the woman who said it has too many words for a 4 year old. Not true if you child loves to read as mine does. He sits through the entire thing over and over and over again.
