Description

Lisa Westberg Peters (Author), Ed Young (Illustrator). In this subdued chronicle of a year's passage, Peters (When the Fly Flew In) depicts the months as 12 fair- and foul-weather friends.

Lisa Westberg Peters (Author), Ed Young (Illustrator). Her volume begins with the onset of winter: "Shy November looked out with her eyes puddle-gray,. want to play?' " Generous December provides snow to build "a woolly white bear icicle hair," but January and February are too drowsy to have fun.

October Smiled Back, by Lisa Westberg Peters Hardcover Henry Holt and C. 1996 Ages 3-7. In this subdued chronicle of a year's passage. Lisa Westberg subtly conjures the months' personalities, and she is matched well with Caldecott Medalist Young (Lon Po Po). Filling each spread with cut- and torn-paper collages, the artist uses handmade papers for pulpy textures, grainy speckles or, in the case of June's fiery dragon, a marbleized effect.

The Missiles of October is a 1974 docudrama made-for-television play about the Cuban Missile Crisis. The title evokes the book The Guns of August by Barbara Tuchman about the missteps amongst the great powers and the failed chances to give an opponent a graceful way out, which led to the First World War. The teleplay introduced William Devane as President John F. Kennedy and cast Martin Sheen as United States Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy.
