I checked this out of the library. It is written for children but makes a good tie-in to social studies units. However, you will need to expand on the information given as it relates to the crafts involved. Get a book on Paul Bunyan, maybe actually mention that Johnny Appleseed was a missionary & was a good friend to the native peoples in the regions he went through.

States sort of discussed are: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, ,Massachusetts, Rhode Island & Connecticut Projects include: Paul Bunyan Statue * My Town Globe * Castle * Stonehenge Calendar * Champ the Lake Monster * Snowflake Treasure Box * Snowflake Treasure Box * Silly Character Statue * Johnny Appleseed Planter * Green Apples Topiary Garden * Big Bug * Wild Parakeet in Nest * Lollipop Candy Chest*

I would think an apple recipe or two as well as maple snow candy (I used to make this with my Brownies) would have been nice in this book. I did like the internet references & can strongly recommend the enchanted learning web site -- I have been using this for inspiration for many, many years.

If you want to know if this book is for you, go to your local library. If they don't have a copy there is always the option of the Inter-Library Loan procedure (books usually take about 3 weeks to arrive). I almost always preview books from the library before purchasing ... it has saved a lot of disappointment
