The illustrations of this book are lovely, although some (like the Pharaoh) are a little too colorful but overall wonderful depictions of life in Ancient Egypt. I wish some of the pictures had been a bit larger, such as the ones of their homes. Personally I liked that this book contained information that I had found through other research on academic sites. It covers a wide variety of issues, such as religion (Gods and Goddesses, temples and festivals), food, clothing, childhood and jobs. I thought the book was wonderful and a great addition to my collection on Ancient Egypt. I have also purchased the See through Ancient Rome book as well.

In addition to informative text, this book offers sections of murals - showing the Egyptians using the very techniques being described.

Much more than mummies, papyrus and pyramid building in this book! Explore agricultural techniques, bread making, wine making, weaving, making charcoal, telling time, woodworking, stone working, bead making, glass making, bronze casting, pottery, boat making, weaponry, perfuming oils - this is great for our summer homeschool unit on Egypt.

If civilization ended, I could probably use this book to irrigate my property and produce a crop, as well as a mud-brick dwelling and some pottery vessels (I live in the desert). It's very good material.

By the way -- this book has instructions for you if you want to mummify some flowers. Takes 2 weeks, and it works!
