Cant believe this book has the words "hate" and "stupid" in it...seriously??

I did not like this book because there were too many negative words/phrases used. Some examples: "stupid," "brat," "hate," "so what," "I don't care." I would rather my child learn positive terms as she is building her vocabulary. I don't think it's appropriate for kids at the beginner reader age to say those things. I know they will eventually learn to say these words when they are older, but let's keep our kids nice and sweet for as long as we can!

This is the very best book for a new reader that I have found. Many of the I Can Read books are really for more advanced readers and require a vocabulary of several hundred words. This book has a number of 'at' words that allowed my granddaughter to experience success at reading and inspired her to do work to read more. Its a great story with a fat cat, a bat and a talking hat, who fight over a mat. Very, very clever.

VERY simple book. Great for a starting reader to gain confidence.

This book is horrible. It mentions the word hate over and over. It calls characters stupid and overall is a very negative and unfriendly story. I would highly discourage buying this for any child.

My 6yo son thought it was super funny and it was a great book for him to practice reading aloud.

This is a favorite with all of my kids. Funny, repetitive, and lots of rhyming going on. Love this book!
My kindergartener loves this book.
