Published by Thriftbooks. com User, 11 years ago. Great little book with a subtle humour and interesting little characters, that appeals to both adults and kids. A great book to read aloud and you can focus the story different ways in different readings - on the naughty dog that throws the bear away and then claims hero status on finding him, on the adrenalin junkie bear who views the whole escapade as an adventurous day out or on the little boy determined to find his beloved bear. The illustrations are simple but lovely

Helen Craig is a widely acclaimed illustrator of books for children, including This Is the Bear by Sarah Hayes, Amy's Three Best Things by Philippa Pearce, The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, and the hugely popular Angelina Ballerina stories by Katharine Holabird. Helen lives in Cambridge.

Ugh! So a dog pushes the bear into the garbage on purpose. Then the boy who owns the bear goes to the dump (BY HIMSELF!) to retrieve his bear taking the dog with him. And it ends with the boy finding his bear and the dog getting a bone?!

This book is filled with secrets, sneaky behavior and kids just going wherever they please with no consequences! To me, this just encourages children to behave in inappropriate habits. Not a "bad dog" nor does the dog apologize to the bear for what happened. Oh no- he gets a bone out of the deal. Maybe h should toss toys in the garbage more often! And the boy traipsing through a dumpyard....No WAY! Not safe at all!
