Ruth Stiles Gannett Kahn (born August 12, 1923) is an American children's writer best known for My Father's Dragon and its two sometimes called the My Father's Dragon or the Elmer and the Dragons series or trilogy. Gannett graduated from City and Country School in Greenwich Village, New York City, in the class of 1937. There, she recalled in 2012, "she benefited from being 'allowed and encouraged to write for fun' at certain times of the day".

This is the real thing, with the full original text. I had to walk my then 5yo son through it the first time, but he has taken it off and read it by himself many times since. The classic fantasy trilogy of Elmer Elevator and the flying baby dragon has delighted children and their parents for generations. A Newbery Honor Book and an ALA Notable Book, My Father's Dragon is followed by Elmer and the Dragon ("rich, humorous, and thoroughly satisfying") and The Dragons of Blueland ("ingenious and plausible, the fantasy well-sustained").
