Description

Dr. Jekyll Was Quite at Ease. The Carew Murder Case. That evening Mr. Utterson came home to his bachelor house in sombre spirits and sat down to dinner without relish.

Dr. It was his custom of a Sunday, when this meal was over, to sit close by the fire, a volume of some dry divinity on his reading desk, until the clock of the neighbouring church rang out the hour of twelve, when he would go soberly and gratefully to bed.

It was aman of the name of Hyde. Hm," said Mr. Utterson. What sort of a man is he to see?"

Utterson the lawyer was a man of a rugged countenance that was neverlighted by a smile; cold, scanty and embarrassed in discourse; backwardin sentiment; lean, long, dusty, dreary and yet somehow lovable. It was aman of the name of Hyde. What sort of a man is he to see?"

Spencer Tracy plays Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in 1941

Spencer Tracy plays Dr. Hyde in 1941. Unfortunately indifference becomes more personal, more brutal in nature, as Hyde becomes more and more a caged animal who does not want to have to embrace the pretenses of Jekyll’s respectable position. 55 pages later and I’m still convinced that Robert Louis Stevenson named his characters this way exclusively so he could fit in the line if he shall be Mr. Hyde, I shall be Mr. Seek! and honestly? that’s iconic. Quiet minds cannot be perplexed or frightened but go on in fortune or misfortune at their own private pace, like a clock during a thunderstorm.

My 10 yr. old son absolutely loved this book. I told him a little about it, just enough to get his interest peaked and thats all it took. I ordered him Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, along with 20K leagues Under the Sea, H.G Wells the Time Machine, and the Ray Bradbury Chronicles... I hope these books will turn him from a life of video games into a lifelong reader. You can never go wrong with the classics, and so far we are off to a good start...

I think the ESL students will like it and it will help them understand the basics of the story before they would read the original version.

I enjoyed reading this graphic novel version of this classic tale. The illustrations were gritty and raw giving the story an eerie feeling that it deserves. This story has always fascinated me on the depths of evil humans can achieve and the debate between good and evil. This was a good visual version of this story !

I have always enjoyed the story of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde but I just loved this book because the illustrations were amazing. The dark charcoal like drawings brought the story to life in a creepy, spine tingling way. It was just what the Doctor ordered on the stormy night I read this. This graphic novel will grace my bookcase for years to come. I would recommend to everyone.
