I was looking for a childhood favorite story about an elf who gets so scared he jumps out of his shoes and pit, pat, pit, pat something follows him all the way home (it was his shoes!). My brother and I loved this story as children, now our little ones are arriving and I couldn't find the story anywhere. After an internet search I discovered it was a story Grandpa Bear tells his grandson in this book. I read the story to my nephew and he loved it, just like we did as kids!

Our young daughter asks us to read this book on a daily basis. So, although this book has been around for decades, it seems to transcend time.

There is something so warm and comforting about the illustrations and the gentle, fun dialog. Somehow the pictures give a sense of stability and safety. It is a brilliant marriage of text and illustration.

The understanding and humor that passes between the three generations speaks to the intricacy of relationships and the intelligence that young children possess. The author knew how to communicate her story without being condescending to children or adults.

I highly recommend this book. It is especially effective as a bedtime book because it has such a calming effect.

Nana and Auntie loved reading "Littte Bear" books in 50's. We read them over and over so I bought them for my year old Grand daughter and she LOVED reading them while she was on school break for Xmas. I intend to get her more for her birthday in next month.

My granddaughter and I loved this book. I taught in the early elementary grades for over 30 years and always found that the children loved the Little Bear books. Katie read the book to me and occasionally turned to me with a smile to make a comment about what was happening in the story. Although she can read more challenging text, I think she enjoyed reading at this level which enabled her to be more expressive.

Time magazine recently rated the best children's books and included the Little Bear books in their list. I've read the stories over and over again and listened to children read them and have never lost my enjoyment in them.

Little Bear is one of the best series out there and the message and illustrations in the book is second to none. Children of any age love these stories and they have some of the most beautiful messages out there for kids concerning friendship and love for their peers. My kids never get tired of these stories and as a parent I do not get tired of reading them night after night.

My son loves this whole series and this one in particular is quite nice. He is a beginning reader and this was one of the first books he read all by himself. It's a lovely story with sympathetic characters. All love, no hate or violence. Entirely clean and a real pleasure. A classic. Highly recommended for kids who are just barely starting to read.
replacing a childhood set of the 5 Little Bear books - what a joy these books are! and the illustrations are priceless
