Our second Biography by Daugherty! Wonderfully written for children to not only understand the roots of a famous historical figure but to truly understand the timing and the circumstances for their success.

As with others of Daughterty books, this is a very good book. My daughter is enjoying this immensely and learning a lot about Lewis and Clark and the journey they made to the Pacific to explore the Louisiana Purchase. Highly recommended.

My 11 year loved this book about Lewis and Clark. It was action packed and character building. I can't wait to share it with my younger son in a few years.

We are reading this book at home along with our other history reading. It gives a closer view of the challenges Lewis & Clark and their team faced being specific about the different Indian tribes and their personalities, the variety of animals they fought and ate, and the contributions of the members of the group. Both Lewis and Clark kept journals with detailed notes about their experience and many excerpts are included in the text. We have read a few books on the subject and really enjoy this one because it makes you feel like you are there with them. It's not too psychological, though, which makes it better for younger audiences. The type is large (~14pt) for younger readers, there is an itinerary, an index, and beautiful drawings.

This book is a read aloud used with the home school curriculum Tapestry of Grace. I usually like the read aloud books assigned, but we had a hard time trying to read this one. It could be just me, but I had a hard time trying to read this out loud.I think it's not written in the conversation that we usually use. It makes it harder to read out loud. It is probably easier to read quietly to yourself. We didn't get half way through the book before we gave up on it. Maybe it gets better as you get into it more. I didn't have any more time to give it. My kids weren't liking it so we just moved on to the next book. I feel bad only giving it 2 stars, but my son said I should give it one.
