Vash the Stampede is back for more intense action, and it looks like it’s only going to get harder as the saga continues! As before, we’ll see some vicious battles with new foes from the Gung Ho Guns, tough and strange fighters with one mission, to kill the nice guy with the God gun integrated into his body. Vash and Wolfwood go up against Hoppered the Gauntlet, with his strange hockey mask and shield body and Midvalley the Hornfreak whose saxophone will blow your mind! And what’s worse is these two killers won’t take no for an answer. On top of that they’ve got Zazie the Beast with his weird animal ways waiting in the wings, and Legato looking on as always. It’s a freakfest battle in the city, and it’s going to be tough on our hero and his conflicted protector.

Found this series online first and the movie. Later found out about the books which I must say are way better than the movie or show could ever be. If you love western fantasy's you love this series.

In this volume, Vash, Wolfwood, and the others regain their strength from the fight with the Puppet Master and Nine-Lives. Signals from Earth are transmitted and ships are on their way to visit... although Knives isn't pleased.
Vash knows that the struggle with his twin brother is not over. He discourages the Insurance girls to come with him (but they still follow).
Vash and Wolfwood then face the Gung-Ho Guns Midvalley the Hornfreak and Hoppered the Gauntlet. Zazie the Beast is unwanted company.
This arc continues into volume 5, shedding off some information about "Lost July," and background of the characters involved.

At this point, the manga starts to become entirely different from the anime. Once starting volume six, there is no turning back (and if you love it, you may keep reading).
Anime lovers may miss Wolfwood's softer side and find some themes to be odd or disturbing. Some readers may enjoy the manga more because it is darker or has more development for some side characters (and amazing characters not yet introduced).

I enjoy the theme of perseverance that grows later in the series.
I love Knives' facial expressions to death (we didn't see enough of him in the anime).
And I find Gauntlet's story of a vengeful handicap to be more impressive than the story of him as the mad killer no one knew.
It's nice to see more of Midvalley, as well.
