The New Jersey Pine Barrens has been the site of many legends, tales and mythical creatures, many of which have been documented by Weird NJ in its magazines and books. The Jersey Devil has garnered a deep following in the southern New Jersey and Philadelphia areas. Due to the sightings, many believe the Devil to be an actual animal or phenomenon similar to Bigfoot and the Yeti.

The Pine Barrens is screening at the Philadelphia Film Center on November 20th as part of their Non/Fiction Series. This event marks the first time that the film will screen with the recorded score by The Ruins of Friendship Orchestra. We are thrilled to be able to include Nancy Holt’s 1975 film Pine Barrens in this year’s Middle of Nowhere at Whitesbog in the Pinelands.

In reality, the Pine Barrens is an area rich in colonial history that has been neglected and under appreciated by the State and by those who inhabit its urbanized areas. However, ignorance of the many provides opportunity for an adventurous few who will take the time to learn the history of this area. The ruins in the Pine Barrens are not grandly spectacular but rather subtle and at times hidden within the forests of scrub pine and oak and they require a discerning eye and a good map to find.

They decide to dispose of it in Pine Barrens in South Jersey. This episode stands out because of the quirky tone. They get to the woods only to find that their victim is still alive. He manages to run off on them and in the pursuit, Christopher and Paulie get themselves lost. As darkness falls, the cold takes over, and it's particularly hard on Paulie who has lost one of his shoes. I fully understood why this was the case when I saw it was directed by Steve Buscemi, who's undoubtedly taken notes from the Coen brothers. The tone works so well with the 2 main characters in the episode, Chris, and especially Paulie, who often stand for the laughs.

CHAPTER XX - The Restored Treasure. The phantom of pine hill. WHEN Nancy Drew, together with her two close friends, arrive for the Emerson University June Week celebration and learn there has been a mix-up in their motel reservations, the confusion leads to a baffling mystery. Uncle John Rorick, a descendant of the early settlers of the town of Emerson, invites the three girls to be his guests at his historic mansion on Pine Hill. Shortly after their arrival, he tells them about the phantom who haunts the mansion’s library.

This book is such a piece of amazing work and contains numerous stories of the history of the Pine Barrens and families from the area. Although I did not buy via amazon (buy at Batsto Village website [google it] $60, 900 pages). I bought this work for $60 and it is such an amazing book, I'd gladly pay more for this book and for this author's detailed and thorough work and contribution to the spread of history and stories of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. This book is very fascinating and contains numerous families. Chances are, if you grew up in or around the Pines, your family could be in this book, which makes the book even more interesting. My family is in this book, however I was very young when this book first came out and never got a chance to meet the author or contribute to this book. The Heart of the Pines and John E. Pearce deserves so much more recognition for this book.
