David "Davy" Crockett (August 17, 1786 – March 6, 1836) was a 19th-century American folk hero, frontiersman, soldier and politician, who died at the Battle of the Alamo. His life and legacy have been written about extensively, beginning in 1834 with a biography reputed to have been written by Crockett himself, but in reality was at least partly ghost written by Thomas Chilton.

William Blum's latest book is "Freeing the World To Death: Essays on the American Empire. Left and right, politically speaking, are meaningless terms, as american foreign policy is identical regardless of which 'side' the leadership is on. Fun fact: while the left/right political axis is meaningless, the true axis is total freedom, represented by anarchy on one side, and total government on the other. People who are unaware of the true political landscape are to my mind uneducated idiots. My one real complaint- Why does the book conclude with a self indulgent cheap-shot at reality-challenged Angelenos?

A response to Michael Anton. What is going on now is a widespread rejection of the ruling authorities and their beliefs, on the part primarily, but not only, of the American youth at large. This is similar to the rejection of communism by dissidents and youth in the Soviet bloc in the 1970’s and 80’s, and driven by similar causes.

In The American West, Brown focuses on the inland American West during the last half of the 19th century as the railroads opened up the area to settlers, the Plains Indians made their final stand and cattle ranches spread from Texas to Montana. Brown examines the origins of the Western myth in literature, from the dime novels of Mayne Reid and Ned Buntline to Owen Wister's The Virginian, and traces the rise of rodeos and Wild West shows. I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.
