I also interviewed Marianne Williamson shortly after her book, Healing America was released. In the introduction to her latest book, The Healing of America, Williamson recalls that day. Twenty-two years later I met her again when she spoke in Greenville, SC as a Democratic Presidential Candidate. When I went back and read the Q&A article I wrote in 1997 and that was published by The Sun, I was amazed by how relevant her answers are still today. I was watching television in my family’s den while waiting for my father to come home from work when a news bulletin reported that King had been killed. Shortly afterward, my father walked in the back door.

This book has been a bestseller for more than 20 years. Thanks to the author for updating it for today's times and focusing on positive ways to share love and spirituality to solve problems.

As an activist, the messages of this book are inspiring: "The enlightened activist is looking to love, not to anger, to solve the problem. And that is our task at hand."

In addition, there are many heartfelt ways to understand our American history, forgive, and move on. I love that the author shares many principles and prayers from the past that can used today to both inspire change and understand numerous issues including:

1. Pray for every one of the fifty states.
2. Pray for help in giving up judgment toward whatever person in public life, or group of people, you tend to judge.
3. Pray for the children of America.
4. Pray for the leaders of America.
5. Pray for the poor in America.
6. Pray for America's incarcerated population.
7. Pray for all drug addicts and alcoholics.
8. Pray for America's sick.
9. Pray for America's relationship with all nations.
10. Pray for atonement and amends toward those who have been wronged by us as a nation.
11. Pray for racial healing. Atone for the systemic racism that permeates our social politics today, and surrender your own thoughts as well.
12. Pray for parents and children in America.
13. Pray for husbands and wives in America.
14. Pray for all lovers and friends.
15. Pray for America's environment.
16. Pray for the American economy.
17. Pray for American education.
18. Pray for American health care.
19. Pray for America's homeless.
20. Pray that you may become a better American citizen.

If you are interested in the history of America and positive social change--this book is required reading!

I am old enough to remember the murder deaths of the Kennedy men, MLK and the students at Kent State, and Ms. Williamson points out that these were designed to shut us up. And it worked. I love that she explains truth in simple terms that all readers can understand, and her soft touch about it isn't off-putting as it would be if I said it. I love her. I love her style. I love her prayers. She is a Way Shower and I love that I have seen her speak in person, that I own her books, and that I have learned from her. All her books are worth owning, and I am happy to have them in my library.

VERY relevant to what's happening in the United States right now. This is a must read. This book is an eye opener to the threat our democracy faces and the loss of freedoms we take for granted. Although published in1998, it reads like it was published in 2016. Highly recommend this book.

Rather than the usual political exchanges what if we speak respectfully of what we believe, about what we want to see in our country and how together we might work to accomplish justice for all. A well thought out invitation to combining spirit and politics.

The author gives the reader a lot of things to think about when it comes to some of the core issues to heal the soul of America. It was published in the late 1990s however, it is so timely to read this book at this time. I love Marianne's approach to the issues, and her objectivity and honesty. I highly recommend it.

Marianne is the voice of today - her words touch on the pulse of what America should be focusing on in these tumultuous days.
This was one of the best books I have read in years. I think it should be a 'must read' for all college students and anyone interested in the America that we love. In fact, a must read for anyone.
