This book is an amazing treasure. To read about all the history of Oahu is truly spectacular. I love this book and learning about all the things you can't learn about just by arriving there and sight seeing. There is more to places besides the sights and this book shows that.

I'm still reading this book but as I just moved to Oahu 7 years ago, this is the best local guide I've found. Want to be a good tour guide and show good places AND know the history? This is your book.

This 222-page book takes a unique and engaging off-the-beaten-path approach to Hawaii's cultural, business and military history. Another plus is the chapters are organized for people who want to visit the historical places the book discusses. For example, chapter 1 covers Le'ahi (Diamond Head) to Fort Ruger; chapter 2 covers Diamond Head to Waimanalo; and so on, up to chapter 12, which covers 'Ewa to Waianae. Each chapter provides well-researched and well-written histories of places of interest, driving directions to them, and average driving times. Maps and historical photos accompany the narrative. This is a wonderful book for both visitors and local residents.
