Comparative politics is a field in political science characterized either by the use of the comparative method or other empirical methods to explore politics within (as opposed to between) countries. 82 Comparative politics is a ‘200’ course offered on the Economics, Management, Finance and the Social Sciences (EMFSS) suite of programmes. It is a subject which is concerned with why political institutions are desirable, how they work in practice and how they vary from country to country. The aim of the course was to give MSc students a grounding in comparative politics. He has also taught introductory courses on British politics, Irish politics, and political analysis in several British and American universities. He has published on different aspects of comparative institutional analysis, including on Arend Lijphart, constitutions and the referendum.
