Description

Goffman/Dr Ancient Smyrna was burned down in 1922.

Goffman has provided us with an excellent book, but like many younger scholars, he makes a considerable error of using the wrong name for the city he discusses. Ancient Smyrna still remains below and the medieval city was not Izmir, as Dr. Goffman writes, but Smyrna, of course, as all educated persons know.
