I wasn't sure what to expect, but this book was far beyond anything I was expecting. A little history: My father flew with VB/VPB 109 during this same time frame, but was killed in a crash test flying a Neptune when I was way too young to know much of his time during the war or to ask those questions I wished I could have. Crew One gave me great insight on the crew make up, and workings which gave me a much greater idea what it was like during their tours in the South Pacific. Thank you Dennis for this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and couldn't put it down. I thought it was a very good read.

This is a truly great book to show the realities of air combat and the considerable "down time" during a war. You wind up knowing the crew rather well. It is the only WWII book that I have ever read that tells the story like it happened including the oddball use of spare time. What they call "a good read".

I really liked this. It isn't wall to wall action, but one mans story of his experiences as a Privateer crew member. Definitely a good read and worthy of having!

Great story. Another one of those parts of WWII history that I knew little about, a lack now at least somewhat remedied. I highly recommend this.

Excellent book. Just what I'm looking for in personal accounts of WWII and how it affected ordinary citizens.

a few historical inaccuracies, but overall a pleasant read.
Best book I have ever read on naval air crews in the Pacific Theater. Very accurate in every detail when compared to official records of squadron VPB-108 and the heroic crews who gave all and some who made the ultimate sacrifice. The replacement of the bomb site with forward firing twin 20 milimeter canons on the PB4Y2 while in combat on Pelilieu and Tinian was an engineering feat not possible in todays Navy. The first Navy Patrol Squadron to use napalm against enemy ship and shore installations. Why a movie has not been made about this book is beyond comprehension. The daring raids at sometimes less than 25 feet altitude made fighter planes out of a B-24 bomber converted for Navy use. I picked the book up and finished it the first time without sitting it down.A must read A+++++.
