When Mary Ellen Hopkins wrote this book years ago it was a brand new technique that people took classes to learn. Mary Ellen Hopkin's books are always great. I learned to quilt with her methods and still use them today. Now it is the backbone of quilting. The premise was that quilts that were made with this simple technique using the rotary cutter and an easy way of stacking blocks would take much less time to make so that people could feel comfortable using the quilts instead of putting them in the guest room bed where people could look, but not touch.

In 1977, Hopkins opened a quilt shop in Santa Monica called Crazy Ladies and Friends

In 1977, Hopkins opened a quilt shop in Santa Monica called Crazy Ladies and Friends. Hopkins' short book, The Double Wedding Ring Book, was released in 1981 and her first full-length book, The It's Okay If You Sit on My Quilt Book, in 1982. She founded a company, ME Publishing First Printing, to publish the latter. Classes offered at her shop developed into invitations to give lectures. Following the release of The It's Okay If You Sit on My Quilt Book, Hopkins began teaching workshops to quilt shop owners interested in her techniques. She lectured throughout the United States.

Mary Ellen implies in the title that she wants you to experience your quilt, snuggle up in, carry it in the car, use it! Certainly she doesn't mind if you do make the heirloom type quilt that is gazed upon for enjoyment, untouched

Mary Ellen implies in the title that she wants you to experience your quilt, snuggle up in, carry it in the car, use it! Certainly she doesn't mind if you do make the heirloom type quilt that is gazed upon for enjoyment, untouched. No hand piecing or hand quilting for her, get that machine out and put the pedal to the metal. One amazing discovery you will have is that her quilts look great. This replaced my original book that I had loaned out to somebody years ago. I was so happy to receive it. It was in excellent condition. If you have never made a quilt before, this is the book to get. The woman has a great sense of humor and what was then, a novel approach to cutting and putting pieces together that makes it fun!

I owned a copy of this years ago and loved it, so was glad to find a used copy! Such ingenious ways to speed up piecing. I made the Amish shadow and Irish chain quilts using her method. Took the pain out of piecing. Lots of quilt blocks, full color throughout, great diagrams and instructions. My most favorite quilt book.

This book is fabulous but the seller misrepresented it's product and sold this as new. It's not even in its original binding and I'm too OCD for the shambles it in. Pages don't even line up.

Just as I remembered it. It is a good resource for beginning quilters, and a good inspiration source for experienced quilters too.
I bought this book used and received a book in almost perfect condition. The author's humor and talent come through in every page. I refer to this book often when I want to create a quilt without a pattern design and have already used several of the blocks. I'm happy I now have it to use as a reference.
