Four Way Bargello book.

This book is written by someone who knows what they are doing. That is always good (understatement alert). Sadly that is not always the case when it come to how-to books. I can always depend on books by Dorothy Kaestner.

Author:Kaestner, Dorothy. Each month we recycle over . million books, saving over 12,500 tonnes of books a year from going straight into landfill sites. All of our paper waste is recycled and turned into corrugated cardboard. Four-way Bargello by Dorothy Kaestner (Hardback, 1976). Pre-owned: lowest price.

This four-way bargello is done with variaged thread from the Caron Collection. It was inspired by an image and pattern in Dorothy Kaestner's Bargello Antics. Dalia Pattern in Purple. Each of the three "braid" frames is done with a different set of three threads dyed in similar colors. The diamonds in between show off thread blending the main colors. The center block is worked in baby blocks and edged with diamonds. I particularly like this pattern because you can manipulate the end treatments and filling in the edges were the patterns meet in different ways.

This book could be subtitled, "1001 Bargello Surprises," the author teaches the reader all about bargello as geometrics, undulations, florals, feathers, Celtic knots, waves, ribbons, ropes, circles, and pieces that just seem to grow. There are lots of color pictures with lots of color combinations and suggestions. She also has thrown in photos and charming anecdotes that don't seem to relate to the book. That's nitpicking, but, if you ever read this book, you ought to know that you weren't the only one scratching your head after searching the book for ferns, paisleys, and paperweight designs.
