I've crocheted a long time, and my daughter is at that age of wanting to take after me. She'd been after me for a beginner's book, so I gambled on this one--and it has paid off.

I have two suggestions for improvements:

(1) Since it's "First Crochet", how about target younger readers?
(2) Go for spiral bound on the next edition. It's more conducive to following step-by-step directions---an ESSENTIAL for all crocheters, especially beginners. Beginning anything can be frustrating. It's new, it's hard, it's time-consuming - but then your guide keeps closing on you...and the frustration builds.

Otherwise--it's a great book for newbies and oldies. Oldies know we still need to practice the basics, and there always seems to be another basic to learn.

i was disappointed because the advertisement of this book and one titled: First Crochet: Simple Projects for Crocheters(first crafts) are identical; therefore, the pattern i was looking for was in neither book as had been advertised. both books have the same author. i bought both books, with different titles, because i thought they different books. someone needs to look at the 2 books and not offer them as separate content.

I bought the book based on the reviews and I wanted to learn how to crochet during the night time TV watching. Wasn't all to happy to be a couch potato. The book was used which I knew it was going to be, looked pretty much brand new! but I had a hard time trying to follow the written instructions and pictures. They didn't exactly follow each other. Lots of cute projects to do in it. that i can't wait to do! but they aren't what I thinking is beginner projects.(I think simple stitch scarfs and blankets) Had to bring in all my stuff into work to have a coworker show me then after a few times the book kinda came together, but i will be getting a different book

Didn't really care for the choices. Would have liked more choices of afghans. Would have liked different designs. Like shells or zigzag. Patterns.

The book has a couple of things I might make, but I wasn't thrilled with the projects offered. However, I'm new to crocheting and as I learn I may appreciate the book more.

This was a gift for an adult having trouble learning to crochet. It was received with great excitement and the recipient wants to go through it project by project and re learn everything every step of the way. Lots of pictures, cute projects which appeal to an older person.
love all the patterns in this book!!!
