High-Yield Gardening book. Truly a handy book to have around to reference for the home gardener looking to educate him or herself about how to get the vegetables they'd like to grow to grow happily together in a small space. Although I technically have as much garden space as I would need, there also are two creeping weeds that plague the whole garden area and raised beds was my life-saver this year. I've enjoyed getting to know the plants and the soil and reading about the ones I have yet to meet and spend time with.

High-Yield Gardening. This is an excellent book on vegetable gardening. No one book covers everything but this is one I consult fairly regularly, especially when laying out a new bed or design. I also recommend Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew and Postage Stamp Gardening, can't remember author.

For productive gardening, you just need to figure out which strategies are best for your garden space. You can maximize the yield from each bed by planting crops in triangles. This lets you fit about 10 to 14 percent more plants per bed. Don’t space the plants too tightly

For productive gardening, you just need to figure out which strategies are best for your garden space. Here are seven high-yield strategies that can help you maximize your garden space. 1) Use raised beds with rich soil. To boost yields, you need to build up the soil. Don’t space the plants too tightly. Crowding can stress plants, and this makes them more susceptible to diseases and insect attacks. 4) Go with compatible pairings.

Container gardens are also a good way to get a taste of gardening. I know that the gardening book with the most worn cover at our house is High-Yield Gardening: How to Get More from Your Garden Space and More from Your Gardening Season By Marjorie B. Go for a pot with a tomato plant in it (make sure it’s deep enough!) or a rubber-maid tub full of dirt and a crop of bush beans. If I remember correctly, there is some info on cover crops in there as well – you might want to check that one out.

Learn 7 ways to increase your vegetable yield from your vegetable garden. These are must-follow ideas to get more out of your limited space and enjoy more veggies from your time, effort and money invested in your vegetable garden. Nobody plants a vegetable garden expecting poor yield. But more often, people’s expectations are thwarted by poor yield because of lack of knowledge. You must have a goal when starting a vegetable garden. Your goal should be to get maximum returns with minimum input. This dictates that you employ the best farming techniques and practices

I'm the proud owner of 5 copies of this book! Why? Because I keep loaning it to friends & family and never seem to have a copy when I need it. (which is often) I've even volunteered to buy a copy for my local library 'cause their one copy is always checked out! My favorite CSA growin', Farmer's Market attending, Garden Guru suggested I buy a copy of this book! He's a Master Gardener, who learned most of his tricks from Alan Chadwick in the 70's and he told me everything I needed to know would be in this book! He was right. The only thing missing and the reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is 'cause the "bug on bug" biological pest controls are lacking. I need another book on ways to organically control pests in my raised bed gardens. Other than that, I refer to this book almost daily during the growing season. Buy a copy now, while they are still around or get on the waiting list at the library.

UPDATE: Just bought 2 more copies 'cause I've loaned/given them away AGAIN! Get 'em while you can...

I checked this out at the library and then had to buy it. Filled with wonderful information that I've not found so useful and well expressed. Wish it were still in print. A lot of people would enjoy this book.

This is an excellent book on vegetable gardening. I like it enough to be buying a second copy for my daughter. No one book covers everything but this is one I consult fairly regularly, especially when laying out a new bed or design. I also recommend Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew and Postage Stamp Gardening, can't remember author.

Get this to understand where square foot gardening camefrom. Lots of good tips and advice. I prefer this to the glossier books by Mel Bartholomew.
