High-Yield Gardening book. Truly a handy book to have around to reference for the home gardener looking to educate him or herself about how to get the vegetables they'd like to grow to grow happily together in a small space. Although I technically have as much garden space as I would need, there also are two creeping weeds that plague the whole garden area and raised beds was my life-saver this year. I've enjoyed getting to know the plants and the soil and reading about the ones I have yet to meet and spend time with.
High-Yield Gardening. This is an excellent book on vegetable gardening. No one book covers everything but this is one I consult fairly regularly, especially when laying out a new bed or design. I also recommend Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew and Postage Stamp Gardening, can't remember author.

For productive gardening, you just need to figure out which strategies are best for your garden space. Here are seven high-yield strategies that can help you maximize your garden space. 1) Use raised beds with rich soil. To boost yields, you need to build up the soil. Don’t space the plants too tightly. Crowding can stress plants, and this makes them more susceptible to diseases and insect attacks. 4) Go with compatible pairings.
Container gardens are also a good way to get a taste of gardening. I know that the gardening book with the most worn cover at our house is High-Yield Gardening: How to Get More from Your Garden Space and More from Your Gardening Season By Marjorie B. Go for a pot with a tomato plant in it (make sure it’s deep enough!) or a rubber-maid tub full of dirt and a crop of bush beans. If I remember correctly, there is some info on cover crops in there as well – you might want to check that one out.
