This time I picked up books authored by Kevin Siegel, who is a fantastic trainer and a fabulous person with a great sense of humor. I’ve attended some of his face-to-face and online trainings in the past and he has a magic mantra of keeping the audience engaged in the class throughout the session. And when you are comfortable using Captivate, you can pick up the Beyond Essentials book which covers how to record a video demo, apply custom styles, enable branching, and aggregate multiple courses.

Kevin makes it very easy to learn Captivate 7. Captivate 7 is a very complex technology, with rich capability--which is what makes it so challenging to learn. Kevin Siegel breaks it down into simple concepts that you apply right away. I really appreciated his approach because it must have cut 90% of the time I would have needed to do it without his book.

This is by far the best training you will find for Captivate. These books blow away anything from the online video subscription services.

This book is a perfect exercise book walking the student step by step through the process of using these tools. I highly recommend this book for anyone learning Captivate.

All of Kevin Siegel's workbooks are exceptional. They are well written and highly effective because they are based on hands-on learning and come complete with comprehensive exercise files (downloadable from his website). Highly recommended.

For work I had to learn the Captivate program to make some simple e learning sessions. The manual and online tutorials that come with Captivate are complete garbage. I ordered these 2 (essentials and beyond the essentials) and wow, do they make learning the program easy. The skills and drills method lets you actually do what you read about, so you get the hang of it. I am by no means an expert in the program, but these books have helped me get off to a great start.

I worked with this book right after Adobe Captivate 7: The Essentials.

The concept was the same - step by step modifying the existing projects, which is a great way to build confidence and explore new features in the real world scenarios.

I was able to get through the book in 8 sessions, each about 1-2 hours long.

What I liked? The book picks up where the essentials stopped, which created a continuity. The instructions work without any issues. The author has tested them in various systems (Windows, Mac) and points out the differences and tips in case you get stuck.

Similar to the essentials book, I wish there was more info about how to make make decisions - why would you want to choose one option/setting over another.

Overall, very well put together, totally worth the money.
