The history of this book repeats that of The Saint on TV and The Saint Returns. That is, it started life as a television scenario, not written by me, and not based on anything that I created except the character of Simon Templar. The thing was as large as an ordinary house.

Hardcover, A Lythway Book Large Print. Here lies the dilemma of Mr. L Charteris' books and the plot of the Fiction Makers. Published 1989 by Chivers Press (first published January 1st 1968). The Saint and the Fiction Makers. The third Saint book to be made up from scenarios from the TV series contains just a single story, lengthened to a full novel. It is not entirely typical, containing the kind of ironic self reference more associated with The Avengers than the more straightforward action of most Saint stories. Take James Bond or Alexander Mindy of It Takes a Thief, give a fictional? Super villain, and ask him to dare the impossible.

The Saint: A Complete History in Print, Radio, Film and Television. McFarland & Company.

Both George Sanders and Leslie Charteris had issues with the Saint pictures; Sanders .

Both George Sanders and Leslie Charteris had issues with the Saint pictures; Sanders because he disliked playing the same role again and again, and Charteris because of the liberties taken by the screenwriters. RKO dropped the Saint series and replaced it with The Falcon, another debonair amateur sleuth played by Sanders. Later, as original scripts were commissioned, Charteris permitted some of these scripts to be novelised and published as further adventures of the Saint in printed form (these later books, with titles such as The Saint on TV and The Saint and the Fiction Makers, carried Charteris' name as author, but were in fact written by others).

The Saint is hired to protect Amos Klein, a secretive author who writes a popular and lucrative series of spy novels. Soon the Saint and Amos Klein are kidnapped by members of SWORD, the evil organisation from Klein’s novels. It seem the world created by the famous author has truly come to life.

The beautiful, brainy Amity Little wasn’t Amos Klein’s secretary, and the man who accompanied her wasn’t Amos Klein-it was Simon Templar.

Light weight adventure in a classic style
The Saint manages to be simultaneously old-fashioned and modern. Few surprises but a good yarn

Look forward to reading many more Saint misadventures! Why are twelve more words required, I wonder ? isn't a bit strange?

This may be the most perverse saint story, Leslie in th u.s. is a girl's name, but the author is male, the author Amos is a male name, but the author is a girl.Charles lake ,char(t)e(ri)s, almost an anagram,so saints author is another james bond?a take off on goldfinger with the saint (played by Roger Moore)doing a take off on Sean Connery who plays bond, by the person who is going to be the next james bond? Ironic, but the book titles ,and descriptions of experiences from the "books",the organization ,Warlock ,the crew that works for warlock, galaxy rose for example, just begs for some talented author to actually write the books, fact is fiction fiction is fact, and something like that would beg to be the next step
