Description

Elyne Mitchell (Author), A. B. Paterson (Author). Elyne Mitchell (1913-2002) began writing for her children.

Elyne Mitchell (Author), A. Although the Silver Brumby books are her most famous, she wrote several others, mainly about horses. Passionate about the dramatic landscapes of the Australian Alps, her books convey the beauty and savagery of that area with a remarkable lyricism.

No author would have been a better choice to turn the screenplay of The Man From Snowy River into a novel. She's a master of drama and characters, and knows and loves horses

No author would have been a better choice to turn the screenplay of The Man From Snowy River into a novel. She's a master of drama and characters, and knows and loves horses. I'm so delighted I made time to read this and now I want to find copies of the Silver Brumby books.

Sybil Elyne Keith Mitchell, OAM (née Chauvel, 30 December 1913 – 4 March 2002) was an Australian author noted for the Silver Brumby series of children's novels. Her nonfiction works draw on family history and culture. Elyne Mitchell was the daughter of General Sir Henry George (Harry) Chauvel, who was the commander of the ANZAC Mounted Division Light Horse and Desert Mounted Corps in World War I famous for the charge at Beersheba.

This Elyne Mitchell’s fourth book about the wild horses of the Australian bush. This is the story of a great wild stallion, Thowra the Silver Brumby. Brumbies are the wild horses of Australia, hunted by man to be tamed for their use. Pursued relentlessly by hunters, only Thowra’s speed and mighty strength save him from capture. This is the first in a series of four books about Silver Brumby. I am certain, absolutely certain, that those of you who like horses will think - as my children did - that this is the best book you have ever read’. Penelope mortimer .

And the Snowy River riders on the mountains make their home, Where the river runs those giant hills between; I have seen full many horsemen since I first commenced to roam, But nowhere yet such horsemen have I seen. I heard it in relation to my name in a somewhat derogatory manner. It was used as if to write as Banjo Paterson was an insult.

While the location of the ride in the poem is left unspecified, it clearly takes place somewhere along the Great Dividing Range.

Jim Craig is eighteen-years-old, and cannot return to his mountain home until he has proven himself a man. Jessica Harrison is the beautiful, impetuous daughter of the wealthy cattleman whose £1000 colt runs off to join the brumby mob. And then there is the stallion, leader of the brumbies for almost twenty years, ranging free and proud in the mountains, whose very existence is like a dark thread running through the lives of so many people...

I really enjoyed this book. The author takes readers to a beautiful setting with a story of love, life and hardship that makes readers want to slow down and savor every moment. I love the twists and turns as readers learn about the past and its effect on the present. Well done.
