On leaving Charleston (read twice) is one of the best books that I have read. Another is the prequel to this one called 'Charleson'; if you haven't read ON LEAVING CHARELSTON yet, you should definatey read the first one, well, first. The characters are so real that in some part I feel like they are real people. I would highly recommend this book to everyone. Cinderella: The Day After. After the splendid wedding ceremony, they sail away to live happily ever after.

I read this book after my first visits to Charleston SC. I wanted something set in the time period of new Charleston and these books did not disappoint!!!!!! There are two books that I am aware of and they are quite long. An amazing story based upon the life of the Tradd family, a well to do southern Charleston family, who loses and rebuilds their fortunes along the way and all the familial relationships. The books are titled "Charleston" and "Leaving Charleston".

I just LOVE "Charleston" and "On Leaving Charleston". I'm not in the habit of re-reading books - but I've read these a few times and I know I'll re-read them again. I love how everything going on around the fictional characters are things that really happened in real life. I'm a huge fan of the Holy City (Charleston, SC), and these characters truly help me relate to how life must have been like in the city during the time periods of these two books.
