Description

BARBARA WOOD is the international bestselling author of 27 acclaimed novels, including New York Times . However, the Magdalene Scrolls is my very least liked book of hers.

BARBARA WOOD is the international bestselling author of 27 acclaimed novels, including New York Times bestseller Domina. The Magdalene Scrolls, originally published in 1978, is her first novel. Barbara lives in Riverside, California. I actually wondered if someone else had written it. It is dark, filled with angst and has very few characters (unlike her other books.

When the first of the Magdalene Scrolls arrives, Professor Ben Messer is puzzled, intrigued, excited. By the time the second scroll arrives, Ben’s interest has begun to be more than professional. For it seems that David, the writer of the ancient scrolls, is in many ways very much like Ben-and he seems to be speaking directly to Ben, across nearly 2,000 years of history. Before long, the terrifying transformation has begun, and there can be no turning back.

The Magdalene Scrolls book. I fell in love with her work after reading the phenomenal Virgins of Paradise.

The Magdalene Scrolls - Barbara Wood

The Magdalene Scrolls - Barbara Wood. She had seen him like this once before, at the Shrine of the Book in Israel, where, the year before, as two tourists, they had stood before the impressive fountain exhibit of the famous Isaiah Scroll from the Dead Sea. His life’s one true love–cracked paper and faded ink–seemed to turn Ben into himself, make him lose contact with reality.

First I must say that I have read almost all of the books by Barbara Wood and she has always been one of my favorite authors!! However, the Magdalene Scrolls is my very least liked book of hers. I actually wondered if someone else had written it. It is dark, filled with angst and has very few characters (unlike her other books.) It does contain some interesting historical facts but it often repeats itself in the storytelling. I was very disappointed and almost didn't finish it----something I never do. I still love her other books but will look at future writings with a more skeptical eye.

Interesting and informative but ending was anticlimactic. Would have liked a more definitive conclusion. But overall a good book. Try it.

I've read all of Barbara Wood's books and in my opinion this one was not her best. I usually get caught up in the plot immediately but not this one.

It was one of my favorite books of Barbara Wood when I was in my early 20s. I am now 60 years old and I still like it a lot, but it does repeat itself a lot. It is an interesting story, about the time around Jesus, the Jewish traditions and thoughts of their believes and the beginning of Christianity. It is about struggle of faith and love.

Interesting theme. Unfortunatley the author repeats herself regularly and makes to much use of cliches.
